BioPartners can offer blood samples collected from the subjects with a wide range of medical conditions as well as from healthy donors.
The volume of blood draw from one donor will not exceed 50 ml within one-month period. Blood collection is performed by specially trained personnel/ certified phlebotomists. Any available on the market matrix (blood collection tube type) can be used for blood sampling:
- K2 or K3 EDTA
- Sodium (Na) or Lithium (Li) Heparin
- Sodium (Na) Citrate
- PAXgene blood RNA or DNA
- CPT
- SST, etc.
Collection, processing and storage of blood samples is conducted according to the BioPartners SOPs or Client’s request. Blood or its derivative can be provided as an individual sample(s) or as the set of matched samples in different combination of sample types (e.g. tissue + blood samples, blood + other type of specimen). All biospecimens are collected under Local Ethics Committee approval. Every sample is accompanied with the clinical data that is monitored by certified specialists during regular monitoring visits. Every blood or blood derivative sample is visually checked for the following:
- Correct ID indicated on the label
- Color (if hemolysis is present)
- Clarity
- Volume
- Thawing signs
- Vial/tube integrity
Samples can be shipped at ambient temperature on the day of collection or blood specimens can be frozen and stored on LN2 vapors or in low-temperature freezers (at -20°C samples can be stored for a short period of time), frozen samples never undergo thawing during their storage. Temperature of storage is monitored by temperature loggers.
Blood derivative samples can be provided as:
BioPartners can provide up to 20 ml of plasma from one donor. Plasma is obtained from whole blood centrifuged usually within 2 hours after blood draw (maximum 4 hours). Standard plasma aliquot is 1 ml. The volume of the aliquot can be changed depending on the Project Specifications.
BioPartners can provide up to 15 ml of serum from one donor. Serum is obtained from whole blood centrifuged usually within 2 hours after blood draw (maximum 4 hours). Standard serum aliquot is 1 ml. The volume of the aliquot can be changed depending on the Project Specifications. Serum is usually obtained by processing of blood collected into SST blood collection tube, tube without additive or other serum tube can be used on the Client’s request.
Buffy coat is usually obtained from whole blood centrifuged within 2 hours after blood draw (maximum 4 hours). Standard buffy coat aliquot is 0.2 ml. The volume of the aliquot can be changed depending on the Project Specifications. Buffy coat is usually obtained by processing of blood collected into K2EDTA blood collection tube; other plasma tube can be used on the Client’s request (e.g. K3EDTA, Heparin, etc.). Buffy coat specimens are not usually collected for regular storage in our inventory; however, we were collecting this type of sample for numerous successfully completed projects.
Peripheral blood Mononuclear Cells (PBMCs) can be isolated from whole blood. After washing, the cells the number of living cells in a single sample will be detected manually (with hemocytometer) or using automated cell counter. Aliquots with PBMCs are gradually frozen and transferred into LN2 vapors for long storage. PBMC specimens are not usually collected for regular storage in our inventory; however, we were collecting this type of samples for numerous successfully completed projects.
Collection, shipment and storage of blood samples when using FTA cards is very convenient. FTA chemistry has been optimized to lyse cells and denature proteins upon application of the biological sample onto the card to protect nucleic acids from nucleases, oxidation and UV damage. After drying, the released nucleic acids remain immobilized in the fibres of the matrix and are preserved for transport and later processing. FTA card specimens are not usually collected for regular storage in our inventory, only on the request of the Client.
